“Water, water, every where, nor any drop to drink.” So goes the line from the old Samuel Coleridge poem. Yet, sadly, this statement rings true for dozens of poverty-stricken nations around the world that lack safe, clean drinking water. Although 71% of the earth is covered with water, most of it is not useful for human consumption due to its high concentration of dissolved substances. Of the freshwater that is left, almost 65% is bound up in ice at the North and South Poles, and in the mountains. The little that remains must be found either through drilling, or purified in some way for safe consumption.
When drinking water is rare, it is exceedingly valuable. Thus the gift of clean water is truly a blessing to the people who receive it, and quickly creates opportunities to share the life-changing message of the Gospel. As the Lord Jesus told the Samaritan woman at the well, “Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.” (John 4:13-14, NKJV)
Global Aid Network is involved in numerous clean water initiatives around the world. From providing gravity-based water filters in Indonesia and Central America, to assisting with water well drilling in Central Asia, Sudan, and other African nations, Global Aid Network has seen the real benefits of providing clean water to needy people and the effect it has in sharing the gospel.
Recently Global Aid Network established an exciting partnership with the developers of a personal water purification device. This portable purification device can be used by any person with the ability to draw water through a straw. It requires no electricity, and can provide purification for one person up to a year’s time. A person using the device can walk up to, virtually, any source of water and drink clean water. For less than 3 cents per day Global Aid Network is able to provide clean drinking water in places where no clean water source is available.
