Africa Compassionate Aid

Displaced KenyansAll across Kenya, from the western town of Kisumu, to the capital city of Nairobi and the Rift Valley town of Eldoret, to the coastal city of Mombasa, violent clashes have taken place as a result of dispute over the outcome of the recent presidential election. More than 1,000 people have been killed and at least 600,000 have been displaced from their homes. Thousands have flocked into police stations, hospitals and other public places seeking shelter, food, and medical help, but they have nothing to offer.

A Kenyan national who helps lead Global Aid Network’s partner ministry there communicated, “The humanitarian situation in Kenya is critical and we appreciate all the hard work…to help us meet this need.” He expressed that food is currently the number one need toward immediately addressing this countrywide crisis.

Campus Crusade for Christ’s humanitarian aid ministry, Global Aid Network, is in the process of shipping six, 40-foot containers of food that will provide a total of more than 400,000 meals of a fortified rice-soy mixture and other ready to eat meals. Duane Zook, CEO of Global Aid Network expressed, “These meals are packaged especially for emergency conditions such as these facing Kenya right now. The food provided will not only help physically sustain people left homeless by this situation, but it will also allow our Kenyan partner ministries to give it in the name of Jesus Christ and open opportunities for outreach at a critical crossroad in the lives of individuals and at a critical time in this important African nation.” Once available in Kenya, the food will be distributed through Global Aid Network’s partner ministry—some will go to help a church in Eldoret that was completely destroyed by fire. Global Aid Network has received reports that almost 40% of the residents of this city of 200,000 have been displaced from their homes.

Showing FoodScott Hendrix, Director of Humanitarian Aid with Global Aid Network, said, “We are taking rapid action to dispatch these containers to help people without food as a result of the situation in Kenya. It will take about $42,000 to ship these six containers of food valued at more than $1.2 million.” In addition to this food, Global Aid Network is preparing to ship other critically needed aid, requested locally, such as clothing, new shoes, blankets, canned goods, and medical supplies. As funding becomes available, Global Aid Network may be able to ship additional items requested by our partner ministries in Kenya.
